What Fair Heat is
Fair Heat is a free website that shows heating oil, propane and firewood prices by ZIP code. Fair Heat does not sell fuel, take orders or handle payments, and it is not an agent of any fuel company. It shows no ads, and no company can pay to be listed, to rank higher, or to have a report removed. By using the site you agree to these terms.
Prices are information, not offers
Prices on Fair Heat come from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, from visitors, and from companies themselves. Any of them can be out of date or wrong. A price on Fair Heat is not an offer from the company. Always confirm the price, minimum order, fees and other terms with the company before you order. Your purchase is between you and the company; Fair Heat is not part of it and is not responsible for any dispute.
Labels such as "Verified", "Receipt matched", "Confirmed by neighbors" and "Checked by Fair Heat" describe how a price or listing was backed up. They are not recommendations of a company, and they never change the order of a list.
Adding prices, confirmations and flags
- Only add a price a company actually quoted you in the last 7 days, and only confirm a price you were quoted too.
- Do not add false, misleading or joke prices, or report on a company to push it up or down the list.
- Do not use bots, scripts or other automated tools to add, confirm or flag prices.
- Only add a receipt photo you have the right to share. We send it once to our AI provider, Anthropic, to read the company, date and price, and we never store it. You can cover your name and address first.
- Fair Heat may hold, hide or remove any price, report, listing or company at any time, for example when it looks wrong or breaks these rules.
For fuel companies
- Listing is free. The prices, discounts and details you post must be accurate and current, and you are responsible for them.
- Keep your private update link private. Anyone who has it can change your listing. If it is shared by mistake, email us and we will replace it.
- Companies with no posted price may be listed under "Call for a price" using the phone number and website from their own public listing. Any company can ask us to correct or remove that listing.
- We may remove a listing that posts misleading prices or breaks these terms.
Using the site
Fair Heat is for personal, everyday use. Please do not copy its data in bulk or send it large numbers of automated requests; ask us first. Government price data is public information from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. How we handle your information is described in the privacy section.
No guarantees
Fair Heat is provided as it is, without any promise that it will always be available, complete or accurate. As far as the law allows, Fair Heat is not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the site or relying on a price shown on it. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version.
